The safety and security of food are essential for human well-being. The analysis of bacteria in food and drinking water is now easily accessible to all individuals. This product contributes to enhancing human life worldwide by facilitating bacterial counting with common mobile devices. The integration of global cloud and artificial intelligence technology aims to improve operational efficiency and add value to CompactDry™, thus positively impacting the quality of life. With a strong focus on health and food safety, an innovative application has been developed for the benefit of everyone.
Users can effortlessly determine the colony count cultured in various types of CompactDry™ using their smartphones. The targeted products include CompactDry™ TC (General Bacteria), CompactDry™ TCR (General Bacteria), CompactDry™ EC (E.coli / Coliforms), CompactDry™ CF (Coliforms), CompactDry™ YM (Yeast / Fungus), CompactDry™ YMR (Yeast / Fungus), and CompactDry™ ECO (E.coli). The primary functions offered by this product are a colony counter with features such as arbitrary count adjustment and cloud storage for count data, along with count report generation in PDF format or via email. Optional uniform data management by companies is also available.
Noteworthy details regarding the colony counting process include the use of advanced AI technology in the models released in August 2018 and July 2023. The latter model utilizes object detection AI network YOLOv4 to enhance colony detection accuracy. The cloud image recognition technology employed in the service is a result of collaboration between Shimadzu Diagnostics Corporation and Hitachi Solutions, Ltd.
- Limitations for input images in the Colony Counter include the following restrictions:
- 1. Image resolution less than 800 x 1200 pixels.
- 2. Non-white background color.
- 3. Colored medium.
- 4. Addition of viscous samples.
- 5. Presence of food residues.
- 6. Highly concentrated colonies.
Note that a count result of "0" does not indicate a negative outcome, and the detection range is between 1–250 cfu/plate. Misreads can occur when using the @BactLAB™, mainly related to not detecting all colonies or misclassifying them. It is important to understand that specifications or performance may change without prior notice.
